Don't use your Xperia waterproof smartphones underwater: Sony

Sony xperia smartphone water proof policy change

The Sony Xperia Z smartphone series are known for something special; an ability to survive more than a thousand seconds underwater, with IPS ratings of 6-8 on dust and water proof support, these device owners are sure they wouldn't be visiting the repair shop when they accidentally drop the device in a bucket of water or even a swimming pool. Some even showoff by purposely dropping their Xperia smartphones in water or even take pictures underwater.

Well if you own a Sony Xperia IPS rated water-proof smartphone and you are showing off too,Sony just recently adjusted their warranty policy on this device series and are serious about it.

The warranty hadn't changed that much except for the fact that Sony now recommends that you do not actually Use the device underwater but you could still use the it when you're under the rain, rinse it if its dirty or stuff like that (which is still cool) and use it in the shower.

This is what i found on the official Sony support page.

  • The IP rating of your device was achieved in laboratory conditions in standby mode, so you should not use the device underwater, such as taking pictures. Do not use the device to take photos while performing any type of activity underwater, including diving or snorkeling.
  • Sony also says you could use your device

  • In dusty environments, such as a windy beach or when hiking along a dusty trail. Just make sure you wash off all the dust on your device using water from the tap afterwards.
  • Now that you're aware i think you might want to rethink about your warranty next time you think about taking your Xperia for a swim underwater or for a deep sea video coverage.

The warranty not only applies to Xperia Z series devices but also ther IPS rating supported smartphones and tabs by Sony.

What do you think about this? lets hear your opinion.
